Product Description

Our portable line boring and bore welding solution for excavator booms is specifically designed for on-site restoration of worn pin bores of booms without dismantling the boom or transporting it to a workshop.

By combining auto bore welding and precision line boring in one portable system, the original alignment, bore size, and tolerance can be fully restored to OEM specifications directly at the job site.

The excavator boom is one of the most critical load-bearing structures of an excavator. It transfers digging forces from the bucket and stick directly to the upper structure, it also withstands constant shock loads, side forces, and vibration during operation.

Over time, boom pin bores are prone to cause ovality, taper wear, and misalignment due to heavy-duty working. Once the bore wears out, it can cause accelerated pin and bushing failure, structural stress concentration, and unstable machine performance even there is small deviations in bore size or alignment.

So onsite line boring excavator boom is the best and cost-effective option for repair.

Why Boom Bores Wear Faster

Boom pin bores experience combined stresses that accelerate wear more rapidly than many other excavator components:

  • High alternating loads during digging, lifting, and swinging
  • Side loads and torsional forces caused by uneven ground and angled digging
  • Micro-movement between pin and bushing under heavy shock loads
  • Insufficient lubrication in harsh working environments
  • Dust, sand, and abrasive particles entering the pin-bushing interface
  • Thermal stress from continuous heavy-duty operation
  • High Impact and Cyclic Loads
  • Abrasive Working Environment
  • Misalignment Under Heavy Force
  • Insufficient Lubrication
  • High Strength and Rigid Materials

Once wear begins, bore ovality increases rapidly, leading to loose pins, abnormal noise, and accelerated structural fatigue if it is not be repaired in time.

On-Site Line Boring Excavator Boom Procedure

Step 1 – Inspection and Measurement

Check wear, ovality, taper, and alignment of bores using precision measuring tools.

Step 2 – Machine Setup and Alignment

Mount the portable line boring system directly on the boom and align the boring bar according to the original bore centerline.

Step 3 – Bore Welding (If Required)

Apply controlled weld buildup to restore material in severely worn or elongated bores.

Step 4 – Rough Line Boring

Remove excess weld material and restore preliminary bore geometry.

Step 5 – Precision Line Boring

Finish machine the bore to exact diameter and tolerance of bushings or pins.

Step 6 – Final Inspection and Assembly

Verify size, alignment, and surface finish of bores firstly, then install new bushings and pins.

FAQ

Q: How long does line boring excavator boom repair take?

A: It depends on wear level and operator's professionalism

Q: Why is the excavator boom so critical to machine performance?

A: The boom transfers digging and lifting forces and directly affects stability, reach, and safety. Worn boom bores can cause instability and accelerated wear on other components

Q: Why are boom pin bores difficult to repair?

A: Booms are large, heavy, and structurally complex, both removal and transport is difficult.

Q: What are the disadvantages of traditional workshop repair for booms?

A: Workshop repair requires complete boom removal, heavy lifting, transportation, and long lead times, resulting in high downtime and cost.

Q: How much is line boring excavator boom system?

A: The price range is from USD2,618 to USD 3,018. The final price of machine is related to its model and configuration.
